SB County Whittier Fire– St. Vincent de Paul Circle V Summer Camp honors Guardian Angels

Saturday morning july 8th 2017 started out uneventfully during St. Vincent de Paul’s Circle V Ranch summer camp in a hills above Santa Barbara.

But a fume of fume on a setting alerted stay counselors that difficulty was brewing. The Whittier wildfire came tighten to destroying a summer stay and threatened a lives of hundreds of campers and staff.

The Whittier wildfire began in Santa Barbara County and burnt via a Camp and surrounding area—yet all 88 campers and 36 staff members were evacuated safely by drastic initial responders, staff and volunteers. 

However, a Craft Lodge, Health Lodge cabins burnt to a ground, and a H2O diagnosis trickery and pipes were severely shop-worn requiring months of repairs. With no water, all remaining 2017 summer stay sessions were canceled and organisation shelter rentals canceled by May 2018. The Camp is cleaning adult and rebuilding with a idea of reopening in Jun 2018.

About St. Vincent de Paul Circle V Ranch Camp

Circle V Ranch Camp Retreat Center was founded in 1945 by St. Vincent de Paul Los Angeles and has been located on a stream site at 2550 Highway 154 across from Cachuma Lake on 30 acres in a Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara County given 1990.

Each Circle V Ranch Camp summer event is 6 days and 5 nights of normal supervised fun for boys and girls ages 7 to 13 and campers in care training from ages 14-17.

Campers suffer activities including archery, humanities crafts, hiking, swimming in a pool, training about nature, reading skills, painting, photography, personification baseball, basketball, ping pong, foosball, soccer, tiny golf and of course, campfires, skits and singing.

There is no TV, radio or internet entrance to impact a experience. Campers stay in timber cabins or normal board tents. Three healthful daily dishes served family-style in a Dining Lodge are not usually for food though also for intercourse and fellowship.

In summer 2016, a stay hosted some-more than 1,000 children for this time-honored experience. “Camperships” (scholarship supports done by people and groups’ donations) are accessible for competent campers.
